Got Wet This Week

It was intentional though as we had a capsize exercsie as part of the course this week. It's quite a strange feeling when the boat starts to fill with water a begins to tip towards you. Then your'e in the water and it's a little on the cold side. Swim around to the other side of the boat a climb up the keel of the boat using the jib sheet. Step on the centre board and then the boat will right itself and scoop the other crew member into the boat.

Fortunately it was the latter part of the day so back to shore for a quick change and a cup of tea.

Week 2 of the Sailing Course

Down dropt the breeze, the sails dropt down, 'Twas sad as sad could be; And we did speak only to break The silence of the sea! (the rime of the Ancient Mariner) - well reservoir actually but you get the idea I imagine. This week was somewhat clamer than the previous with some wind for the first half of the afternoon and very little after. It did give me the chance to practice my sailing at ease especially the Gybing which when done in any wind causes the boom to move very quickly from one side to the other. watch your head!!

Also I managed to do some more work on my trailer (pictures to follow) and it's looking quite good now. It's a little over engineered though but at least it won't bounce around on the road when unladen.

As we are going to the review of the fleet on the 28th June I thought I would buy a monopod as some of the shots will be taken at early evening - still deciding which one to buy though as there are so many to choose from and they vary enourmously in price.

Got a little wet this weekend

My first proper sailing lesson this weekend was great and a little exciting - we(I) nearly capsized the boat!! The weather was a little gusty and it sought of caught me off guard a little. As it happened we just took on a little water. This week we practiced tacking on a beam reach across the reservoir and picked up a fair old speed. I'm getting to quite like the Wayfarer and I haven't banged my head too much so far.

Homework this week is to get a weather forecast for Saturday afternoon...
