Thinking of a computer upgrade

The time has arrived to start thinking of upgrading my PC. It's been three years since I last upgraded and I managed to find the spreadsheet that I produced back in November 2002!! Things have changed considerably and there has been a fair amount of googling to get back upto speed

The original specifications which can be seen on our web site are quite amusing now compared to the intended but the anticipated cost is similar if I go for the full upgrade right away rather than take the multi stage approach where I re-use some of the components from my existing setup. Whatever is left from the Upgrade can then be used to breathe new life into my PC in the loft - and perhaps construct a 3rd PC?

The stated specification is not set in stone though and more research is currently taking place to optimise my choices but the emphasis is on hard drive speed, capacity and resilience of data storage. The 64 bit route albeit through a fairly modest processor at the moment gives me the otpion of going dual core at a later date.

What else has happened, well...

Work is getting quite busy and I am due to go to Madrid on the 27th for a day - which should be interesting. Carol is still studying hard with her CIPD course and this is the last year for her - yipee!!

Definately not sailing this weekend and that looks like that's it for this year, so it's probably reverting to indoor pursuits such as the web site, and perhaps the Playstation.

Still messing around with my Music Keg to try to increase the capacity of the 10GB drive and I will be reporting on this as it develops.

Booked tickets to see Kate Rusby on the 20th November at Salisbury

and err that's about it at the moment

See Ya

Sorted - My in car Audio

Well all of the bits have arrived for the car audio and it has now been fitted in the car and it works really well. The Music Keg has a 10 GByte disk and already is 50% full with all of my favourite CD's and some playlists. Perhaps some aftermarket speakers to make it really kickin! Oh and also got my handsfree kit to work too - result!

The other toy was a Skype phone. Very cheap from ebay it is really easy to setup and use. Free calls to other PC's and around 1p/min for international calls.

Didn't go sailing this weekend - the forecast was for a 4-5 gusting to 6-7 which in simple terms is windy! Capsize windy actually so I thought I would give it miss. Pity really as it is probably the last opportunity this year - ah well...

Busy week next week - Bristol,Edinburgh,Swansea and Cardiff
