New Web Site in the Making

I have spent the last few days attempting to put into practice what I learnt from a recent e learning course on HTML & CSS. The results can be seen on on my new web site . If you visit it regularly then you will see regular changes as I mess around with the formatting add and delete pages etc. but eh it keeps me out of mischief.

I may have to put it on hold however for a few days as I am due to attend a course next week and the week after entitled "Prince 2" (no it's nothing to do with TAFKAP) but actually Project Management. I thought it was time that I did a little more Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for my Professional membership. The course requires 20 hours pre reading and if completed provides an industry recognised qualification. The other advantage is that it usually costs around £2500 but it is free whilst I am at Inventures. It will help while away the days until closure.

Getting Faster

My 2 MB connection was made yesterday with my existing supplier Nildram. The speed increase is clearly noticeable but not so much as when I went from dial up to Broadband. Limitations are still the time it takes to download web pages and transfer files from peer to peer sites but where there is a good connection it really flies now. The price wasn't bad too - £25.99 with a 50GB monthly limit and all of the usual bells and whistles including 100MB of web space and email addresses etc. Anyway back to downloading some more stuff...

Money, Money Money...

No, not the classic song made popular by ABBA, rather the news that my redundancy application has been passed by the Inventures Board. This means that in contrast to reporting on these pages that I have spent some money I can actually say that I have recieved some money this time. Not a bad sum too for just 12 months with the company. It will go some way to compensate for the hassle over the last few months with more for some than others. oh and pay the car loan and holiday for this year.

My personal circumstances have been quite fortunate in that I have had a few offers of alternative employment ranging from posts with Hospital Trusts to working for consultancies and finally a job with the new Inventures.

Taking what I consider to be the safe option I have decided to rejoin Arup, but with a slight twist - I will go back there with responsibility for setting up Facilities Management consultancy at the Cardiff office as well as working at Bristol - quite exciting really. Unsure as to how Brsitol Arup might view this (as I was originally approached by Cardiff) the response has been very positive and quite humbling really. Clearly I didn't upset too many people when I left!!

Messing around with CSS and some new email addresses

Now that I have the extra web space and what seems a little more time available I have had a go at the HTML/CSS courses that Boff kindly gave me. The first course was quite a long one but now I have mostly completed it and this has been a good refresher on the basic HTML. Next will be the CSS which after the seeing the possible results is very encouraging. On the email front Carol & I have new new addresses carol@redauditt.co.uk and barry@quickwheels.co.uk - note the theme - fast car and a fast bike !!
